Contributions are cash gifts — not an escrow, and not a purchase made on someone's behalf. Depending on the gift, a contribution is either paid directly into the recipient's bank account, or collected by Sandy Gift and held as their Sandy Gift Balance until the gift's conditions are met. Which one applies is shown on the gift before you contribute. Contributors can choose to give anonymously.
Sandy Gift takes a flat 5% service fee from every contribution. On a gift held as a Sandy Gift Balance the recipient always receives exactly 95%, and we pay the processing cost out of our share. On a gift settled directly to a bank account, contributions of R100 or more also leave the recipient exactly 95%, but on smaller ones we cannot cover the processing cost out of 5%, so 7.3% in total is deducted and the recipient receives 92.7%. The exact split is always shown before you pay.
The minimum contribution is R10. Under R100 you can only pay by EFT or Capitec Pay.
Yes — there's no upper cap. Extra funds are shown on the post (e.g. "Fully funded · R50 extra"). On a gift held as a Sandy Gift Balance, reaching the price closes the gift and releases the proceeds to the recipient; on a directly settled one, funding closes once the item is marked Purchased.
On the website go to Settings → Payout Settings; in the app it is Settings → Payments & bank. The account must be a South African one in your own name. It is used both to receive contributions on directly settled gifts and to withdraw a Sandy Gift Balance.
Money held for a recipient on a gift that has not paid out yet. It is not a wallet or a stored-value account: it can only ever hold the proceeds of an identified gift or the return of a contribution, it cannot be topped up, spent, or transferred to another person, and it can only be withdrawn to the account holder's own verified South African bank account. The recipient's share becomes theirs when the gift reaches its price, or on its due date if that arrives first, and becomes available to withdraw once the payment has settled with Paystack — usually about two working days. A gift set up now carries a due date of at most 30 days, which its owner can push out but never past that same limit.
Go to Settings → Sandy Gift Balance and tap Withdraw. You need a linked South African bank account in your own name. There is a minimum and a transfer fee, both shown before you confirm, and the fee comes out of the amount you request rather than being added to it. Payments take 2 to 5 days to clear into your account.
